I replaced my battery 3 months ago with a Sears Diehard Gold after getting 5 years out of the previous Diehard. Now the needle can't physically move fast enough to register how deep the voltage drops when it is so brief, and the accuracy of the meter does come into question. When the dimming happens, it seems to drop to or *just* under 14. With the engine running / while driving, the meter shows about above 14 by about the one to one and a half times the width of the needle. The midpoint of the voltmeter is 14 and the high is 19. It lasts but a split second, but will do it several times in a row, so I can usually catch it. I've noticed it for quite a while and just I'd glance down at the gauge on the dash when it does. He was afraid that the new battery would be bad as well and the problems would start up again. As a matter of fact when I put the Die-Hard in the Vette it was still under warranty but the Vette specialist at the dealer I took my Vette to said that if he were me he would put in another brand as they were having lots of problems with Delco batteries. I heard sometimes the cells would touch each other and fuse causing a permanently lowered voltage output. But I have heard about the terminals falling apart before and the cells coming loose and causing voltage drops in Delco batteries as well. None of the bad Delco batteries I have dealt with ever leaked.
I might pull a preemptive strike and replace the Delco battery before I get stuck out in the cold literally up her in the northeast. When I started it after the fill up it was normal and hasn't done it since. I stopped for gas with the lights dimming on me. My '04 TB had the dimming problem a few weeks ago on only one night. Again replaced the battery and all the electrical gremlins went away. My mother's '01 Alero had dimming lights and a Check Engine light that kept coming on. My '98 Monte had electrical gremlins and dimming lights, Die-Hard Gold and all problems went away. Die-Hard Gold and all electrical gremlins went away. I would have to pull over and rev the engine to about 4K RPMs and flip the lights one and off until they popped up. The Delco battery in my '98 Vette caused the lights to dim and sometimes would not flip up when I turned them on.
