Ok, concerning those registry tweaks I mentioned in my previous posting: and this is what I suspect is the root cause for your issue. It started me thinking that because TS is designed to share CPU usage between users it likely had a throttling mechanism to prevent one user from taking all the resources. So I installed the app locally and to my supprise it was lighting fast with none of the performance issues. But like you it gets horrible performance. I did a test on my end (something I have been meaning to do for a while) where I installed an application that we run daily on our terminal server because it is the recomended set up that they support. Which is probably why you notice the App being slower on the TS than on a desktop. The long and short is that TS limits the CPU resources allowed to a user. Very likely this is what you are up against.Īnd the direct link to the arcticle just in case Something else that was just brought to my attention in a different thread I started.

So far, the only thing we know is: For some reason, the Sage ERP application is slow on Windows Server 2008 R2 but fast on Windows 7.Īre there any special things I should look our for when deploying a MS Access 2010-based application on Windows Server 2008 R2?Īre there perhaps by default any limits in place which could be responsible for this atrocious performance impact?Īny help is greatly appreciated, I'm pretty much at my wits end right now and the customer is, understandably, pretty pissed. And the kicker was, it was just as slow as on the virtual machine! We even set up a separate Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard-based Terminal server running on a spare ProLiant D元80 G7 machine, just to make sure we weren't having any problems with HyperV.

So far, we've tried various things: Upgrading device drivers and firmware on the host using HP Servicepack for ProLiant, changing the ratio of read and write with the RAID controller cache module, disabling printer and drives forwarding on the terminal server, disabling antivirus, you name it. They've been using a simple Samba-based Linux file server for a few years, so introducing Active Directory into the mix would have been an exercise in frustration. One thing to note about the environment at the customer: They are working in a pure Workgroup environment, there is no Active Directory, so we're only working with local users. It doesn't matter of the load on the terminal server is high or low, it's slower if only one user is logged in and it's slower when 20 users are busily working away.ĬPU- and RAM usage is negligible, the server is pretty much twiddling it's thumbs. Printing the same receipt on the terminal server takes at least 20 to 30 seconds.

The problem presents itself as follows: Whenever a user is working with the Sage erp application, said application is about half as fast on the terminal server as on a low-end Pentium-based 32bit Windows 7 machine equipped with a simple 1TB SATA HD and Gigabit ethernet.įor example, printing an invoice, which includes rendering a preview of the invoice and then sending it off to the printer takes about 10 seconds and the Windows 7 client.

The second VM, srv-ts-1, is acting as a Remote Desktop session host, providing said Sage application and MS Office 2010 to about 20 users. There are two Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard-based virtual machines, SRV-SQL-1 which is running MS SQL Server 2008 R2 serving up the database for the customers ERP system from Sage Software. The server is set up with MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition running the HyperV server role.

The RAID controller is equipped with a 512MB cache module, the controller is set to a 50/50 ratio of read and write buffering. The machine is equipped with a Intel Xeon E5-2620 CPU running at 2Ghz, 40GB of DDR3 RAM, a SmartArray P420i RAID controller and four 600 GB SAS 10k disks running in a RAID10 setup.
